Sony Ericsson’s 8 megapixel camera phone, the C905 Cybershot, made its way into our labs just recently and it has a few neat surprises in store for SE fans. Allow me to give you my impression on the latest Cybershot camera phone that’s hit the shelves. 

Form Factor 
While at first sight the C905 may come off as a bit bulky, weighty and thick (18mm), it however does have that feel good factor that will immediately take away all doubt of it being something one would construe to be an uncomfortable-to-use handset. It also weighs in at just 136g. The 2.4-inch TFT LCD display sports a 240 x 320 pixelresolution with 262K colors. Just above the display, on either side of the earpiece are shortcut keys for quick access to various camera settings. A secondary camera is located in between. The five way nav pad also has camera shortcuts that become available when in camera mode. The other keys are quite generic to Sony Ericsson handsets – Call Answer and End, two open keys, a Cancel/Delete key and access to the shortcut menu. 

The C905 is a brilliantly smooth slider phone with a well designed keypad that’s large enough to accommodate even stubby fingers like my own. The keys themselves are well placed and space is utilized to the fullest. On one side of the handset are the volume/zoom keys, shortcut to the gallery, camera mode switcher (video to still) and the camera’s shutter release. An M2 card slot and SE’s proprietary port are located on the other side. The speaker and strap loop are at the bottom.

What really appealed to me was the camera, that’s very neatly hidden by a sliding panel at the rear. The bottom portion actually moves inside to accommodate the top. Just slide the silver panel down (smooth) and voila, an 8 megapixel camera lens with a Xenon flash is revealed. 

What I’d also like to talk about are the goodies that are included in the packaging. Apart from the 2GB M2 card that accompanies the handset is a sleek memory card reader for the same (swivel design). SE has also finally answered our pleas to do away with their one-port-for-all system. The port is still present of course, but the charger now has a secondary port built in for plugging in the handsfree whilst the handset charges. It’s well designed and I haven’t been ‘shocked’ so far, in case you’re wondering. 

So much for the design and box content, I’d say it does really well in the looks department. 

Xperia Launch Seems to be Back on Track

It’s getting to be quite a pain keeping track of the Xperia X1's launch. From the beginning of this year, to anytime in the fourth quarter, to December, or Jan of ’09, it’s been speculation after speculation.

The same reports that earlier mentioned a possible delay in the launch have new information (that was also seemingly backed by Reuters) that the Xperia X1 will be back on schedule and we can expect it sometime in the next month or two at the latest.

Quite frankly, I breathed a sigh of relief as I don’t think I can wait any longer to test it. Hopefully Sony Ericsson will show Tech2 another grand gesture and give us a pre-launch pro

totype to test.

Sony Ericsson T700

Sony Remake..!!!!

The first information that Sony Ericsson is going to let out a remake of the is no time successful T610, has appeared in the beginning of July. And here all rumors and guesses were materialized in the form of new Sony Ericsson T700 – 3,2-___ with stereo columns and the 2-inch TFT-display. Phone is intended for work in networks GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 2100 M?? UMTS/HSDPA 3G, its thin metal the body has only 10 mm in thickness, onboard there are 512 Mb of memory. To get T700 it will be possible in silvery, black-silvery and black-red colors of a body. The output of phone is planned for 4-th quarter of this year.

SE Set to Launch Special 007 Handset

Sony Ericsson has unveiled an exclusive partnership between the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures/Columbia Pictures release of EON Productions’ 22nd James Bond adventure, Quantum Of Solace, and the C902 Titanium silver edition. The phone, as used by James Bond - played by actor Daniel Craig in the new film - will be available for a limited period and include a memory card loaded with a host of 007 content.

Included is also an exclusive pre-loaded spy-style game. In addition, the full color trailer of the film, behind-the-scenes interviews with the stars and exclusive content such as wallpapers and screen savers will be available on the phone and the memory card. The C902 Cyber-shot phone is used throughout the film by James Bond to capture evidence and assist the agent on his mission.

Lennard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President and Global Head of Marketing, Sony Ericsson comments, “We are excited to announce the continuation of our relationship with the James Bond films and unveil James Bond’s new phone for this year - the limited edition version of our C902 Cyber-shot phone. With the rich array of content both on the phone and preloaded on a memory card bundled with the C902 Titanium silver limited edition, fans of the secret agent will only get more James Bond with Sony Ericsson.”

New 8MP SE Cybershot Info Leaked

It looks like the newest Sony Ericsson Cybershot camera phone is making the scene, though not officially. And from the information that's going around, here's what we know so far – The C905 - as it's being called is a GPS enabled handset. Of course being a Cybershot would mean having a high end camera so why not throw in Geotagging to spice it up a bit. And let's not forget why this handset WILL be a big deal when it's official - the C905 comes equipped with an 8MP camera. It'll have a Xenon and normal flash as well for video.

Some of the other specs include a TV Out port, an accelerometer for auto screen rotation, (let’s not hope they’ve stuck to just the media screen this time, though I have my doubts), external memory support through M2 cards and apparently Wi-Fi connectivity as well. The C905 could also have Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), which is a protocol that runs on top of Wi-Fi that will enhance the sharing of various media.

The handset will come with a 2.4-inch scratch-resistant TFT display made of mineral glass and will have a pixel resolution of 240 x 320 (QVGA) with 262K colors. This quad-band handset will also support HSDPA speeds. Let's hope that the real deal sticks to these specs plus, I wouldn't complain a bit if it had more to offer.
